We've met the enemy - and it's PowerPoint

Quote: "PowerPoint makes us stupid," General James N Mattis of the Marine Corps, the Joint Forces commander, said this month at a military conference in North Carolina. (He spoke without PowerPoint.) UnQuote.

Have came across this very thought provoking article in TODAYonline. Click above link to read the original post.

Indeed, looking at the work processes of the daily operation in my workplace. We are indeed very dependent of this Microsoft tool call the PowerPoint. Every briefing, meetings etc. And indeed its amazing true about the time and mental power that was use to put into preparing all the slides. Before starting work, we all have to sit for a half an hour "hypnotizing chickens" therapy.

Of course, there are certainly pros and cons in using any tools of communication. Personally I like the user friendly features and can get ideas to be presented in a very organize manner. You can plan ahead what you want to bring across systematically. Its certainly a great tool for the person doing the presentation.

On the other hand, I do agree to what the article have cited about the harmful effects of being obsessed with its usage. Like the daily brief that I have to endure everyday, only 5% of the information is truly related to my area of responsibility. But I still have to sit through the entire thing everyday. Its definitely counter-productive. Technically speaking its a wastage of Bandwidth. LOL

But the culture of using this presentation method have indeed deeply entrenched into daily office environment. Its like my daily cuppa black coffee... YES! Its That Addictive... :)
